Paine's quote about America is talking about how back then the only way that America could be a free and independent country was through war. Under foreign rule they are not allowed to do what they want, they have to obey laws from across the ocean. When he says that liberty shines through but the coal can never expire it means that they have a little bit of freedom under foreign dominion but all they need is to fight and break away and they will be independent. In today's world I think that a lot of people have Paine's opinion on things. Considering the way over in Iraq, America feels that they have to fight in order to prove that we are stronger and the better independent country.
Thomas Paine uses metaphors to persuade the American public to continue supporting the Revolutionary war. Thomas Paine is considered by many to be the most persuasive writer of the American Revolution. In 1776, Paine enlisted in the Continental army to fight the British. However he may have contributed on the battlefield, but Paine's greatest contribution to the war effort was through his pen. Paine's essay, "The Crisis," shows his powerful form of writing. In this document Paine uses powerful medaphores to get his point across, as well as it was designed to promote the revolution. An example of a metaphore shown by Paine would be how he describes america as a female referring to the country as "her".
Mr.Paine is a man who came from nothing and understood the value of hard, when the english were trying to take away what the colonists had rightly earned throught their work he had something to say. Considering the world as it is today i would respond to Thomas with with gratitude. i would praise him for the good and right he did for sticking up to the tranny of England. in todays time people are struggling if the government were all of a sudden to start taking away the rights and freedoms of the people i would hope that there would be people like thomas paine around to tell it like it is. he is very clear in his delivery and when he states "America will never be happy till she gets clear of foreign dominion", i understand that there is a need to get rid of the tyranny og england and do things on their own.
Agreeing with will, Paine does understand the meaing of hard work, someone only coming from that kind of backround can really know what it means. He was a brave and respectful man who stood up for what he belived in, today our government is just a big mess, many people dont pay attention to the government now being distracted with the new technology. I think that Paine had such strong thoughts and the best thing was that he wasnt afraid to say what he thought, we need people like that around today..
Paine states with steady confidence that America is and will always be something to fight for. It's a place for the people to rule the people and for foreign powers to only be economic partners. Paine's pamphlet was a serious reminder to Americans that they can not call themselves their own people until they are no longer teathered to a mother country. It seems today that this is still the case. America is and will always be America because the people see value in that. If America were ever conquered, I have no doubt someone would remind us of Paine's words. Perhaps this pamphlet would circulate regularly again until U.S. arms win against foreign power.
When someones hard work is taken from them, it is very frustrating and unfair. Thomas Paine was a man to speak out against the tyranny of Great Britain, and let them know it wont be easy to steal America's hard work. Americans were the ones who sacraficed their lives to start over in a new world that they had no knowlege of, and the ones who built a country from scratch. Paine, as a spokesman for all of whom put their lives on the line, would not settle for less than liberty and feedom. Common Sense, a document written by Thomas Paine, was very inspirational in the movement for freedom

Sorry about the movie; we'll watch the end when I get back. You can certainly gather, however, what Natty embodies based on what you've seen thus far. I'll make a spot for the p. 150 response.
